Deborah Drake is a Financial Inclusion Specialist, Author, Banking Specialist and Trainer.
Deborah held multiple leadership roles at ACCION, a global nonprofit organization committed to creating a financially inclusive world, with a pioneering legacy in microfinance and fintech impact investing.
Deborah while at ACCION, focused on developing and implementing financial initiatives to facilitate microfinance institutions’ access to capital. She managed ACCION’s $9 million guarantee fund for Latin America and the United States, and led the financial analysis unit, which collected and analysed data to achieve greater financial transparency and establish international standards of financial performance for microfinance institutions. Deborah also was responsible for the development and delivery of training to microfinance institutions in the areas of transformation, governance, and investment readiness.
Prior to joining ACCISION, Deborah worked at the World Bank as a Banking Specialist in the Financial Policy and Systems Division where her key role was to evaluate the financial viability and management capacity of financial institutions in the context of World Bank lending operations in various countries including China, Indonesia, Uganda, Argentina, Paraguay, Venezuela, Serbia, and Slovenia. Prior to the World Bank, Deborah served as Assistant Vice President at Bank of America responsible for credit/risk assessment, loan structuring, negotiation and documentation, portfolio strategy, analysis of sale and purchase of loan asset.
Currently, Deborah is the Founder of TheGlenConsulting.com LLC that provides consultancy in governance, risk management, impact investing and inclusive finance. Deborah is co-editor of The Commercialization of Microfinance: Balancing Business and Development, and the co-author of Alchemists for the Poor: NGOs as Financial Institutions.
Deborah holds a bachelor’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University and an MBA from Babson College. She speaks English, Spanish, and Portugues
