Claire brings a wealth of legal expertise spanning Banking, Regulatory Compliance, Legal & Compliance Risk Management, Corporate Governance, and Company Secretarial practice. A proactive and seasoned Corporate Legal Practitioner, Claire has over 13 years of extensive experience across diverse banking functions and segments of the financial services sector.
Claire has served as Head of Legal, Company Secretary, and Head of Compliance in both the Commercial and Microfinance industries. Notably, she spent seven years as Head of Legal & Company Secretary at Cairo Bank Uganda before joining FINCA Uganda. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with diverse Boards across multiple geographies, building deep practical experience and expertise in Governance, Corporate Law, Regulatory Compliance, Legal Advisory, Risk Management, and Corporate Strategy.
Her leadership and impact have been widely recognized: Claire was named to the 2024 Legal 500 Power List for East Africa, honoring her outstanding contributions to executive leadership, cross-functional team management, and her provision of top-tier legal services.
Beyond her corporate roles, Claire has significantly contributed to the Uganda Bankers Association’s Legal Committee, serving as Chairperson in 2020 and 2021. Under her leadership, the Committee advocated for the banking sector, collaborating with licensed institutions to shape legislative developments. Her efforts contributed to key regulatory amendments and the establishment of best practices within Uganda’s banking industry.
Claire holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (UMI), a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Makerere University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. She is an alumna of the FINCA Falcon Program (2022) — a leadership development and succession planning initiative by FINCA International — and the CEO Apprenticeship Program (CAP) in Executive Leadership, Strategy & Governance.
Claire is an active member of the Uganda Law Society and the East Africa Law Society, reflecting her dedication to the legal profession and the broader regional legal community.
